A Cold, Colorful Weekend

We had so much fun this weekend. We decided on Saturday morning to go on a local trip. So we headed downtown Greenville for some fun. I forgot to even take my camera out of the car but I'll just tell you about our day.

  • The Mellow Mushroom: Awesome pizza but had a horrible time with Jack because he was kinda tired. I had to spank him and then things started looking up.
  • After lunch, we decided to try the Mice on Main Scavenger hunt. For those of you not around here, there are little mice statues all over downtown and there are a list of clues so you can search for them. We didn't find them all but after a stop at O.P. Taylor's Toy Store no one cared. We actually ended up giving our list of clues away when we were back toward the car.
  • We stopped in at Spill The Beans for some ice cream. Delicious!
  • Then we headed to The Children's Garden. I did get my camera out and snapped a few pictures.Maci Clare sitting on baby bear from "Goldilocks and The Three Bears" "The Secret Garden" (No one was really cooperating for picutres and Maci Clare ran.)Sadly after being there about 10 minutes, Jack pooped his pants and we headed home.By then it was 4:15pm anyway. We stopped at the grocery store so I could try to get some last minutes sales and then headed home for supper and a movie. It was a great day and we had a lot of fun.
We decided on Saturday we would head to Maggie Valley, NC. Jim has wanted to visit Ghost Town in The Sky as long as I can remember. So guess where we ended up? Ghost Town in the Sky! Not quite the spectacular amusement park that I remembered from the 70's but the kids had a great time. This is the way you are supposed to get up the mountain to the amusement park but every child under 12 must have an adult to ride with and we didn't have enough adults. Jim and Zane rode up the chair lift and Gabe and I took the babies and rode a van. Gabe was secretly glad we rode the van. He is not much on heights. The boys thought it was "awesome" because there was a gun fight in the middle of "town".
You can see the result of the fight.

This was the view from the top of Ghost Town. The view was the worth them money especially on such a beautiful day.
We stayed there about 3 hours and rode almost all the rides and saw 2 shows. It is not very big but it was pretty fun. We are planning on going back in May because the kids ended up with 3 free tickets.
We decided to stay the night in Maggie Valley and we found a cute little log cabin in the woods that was very moderately priced. It was perfect for our family. There was a master bedroom with a queen bed and big living room/kitchen with a fireplace. Then there were stairs that led to a loft with 2 twin beds and a double bed. The kids liked it and Jim and I were very pleased. The man who owned the place even brought us firewood to use. We found a restaurant and grabbed a bite to eat and then headed back to crash. I will post about Monday's activities later.

Love the Mellow Mushroom! Where is the Secret Garden? We have done the mice tour but I don't know about the garden. I haven't been to Maggie Valley in about 15 years - we need to go! Looks like ya'll had a great time!
